2002 Clare Valley Cabernet Merlot |
TASTING Vibrant, inky red-purple in colour. The nose shows perfumed blackberry, cassis and anise aromas, married with spicy vanillin and cedary oak. The Adelaide Hills component adds fragrance and complexity whilst the McLaren Vale component gives generosity and warmth to the overall make up of the wine. The wine displays a generous palate with concentrated dark berry and plum fruit, soft fine grained tannins and a richly textured length of flavour. This medium to full bodied bodied wine has a firm tannin structure and
the complexity of balanced fruit flavour and oak richness, and promises
good cellaring potential over the next 5-7 years. |

2003 Clare Valley/ McLaren Vale Shiraz |
This wine brings together two of the great Shiraz regions of Australia.
The Clare Valley component (70%) is all about power, structure and
fragrantly perfumed fruit. The McLaren Vale portion (30%) is rich, warm
and chocolatey with a wonderfully sumptuous mouthfeel.
These two components combine to produce a very complex wine displaying opulent aromas of mocha, plums, anise and spice. The palate is full bore. Deep, dark flavours of blackberries, plums, licorice and coffee are intertwined with some seriously good new and older French oak. This wine is decadently drinkable now, but 5-7 years in the cellar will really let it show its straps.
