ELDERTON WINES

|
Based in the heart of Australia's Barossa Valley and
benefiting from 100 year old vineyards, Elderton
Wines is a world-class producer of premium table wines specialising
in full-bodied reds. Winner of Australia's most
coveted wine award the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy (1993) and the
prestigious London International Wine & Spirit Competition's World's Best
Shiraz Trophy (2000), Elderton remains proudly
owned by the Ashmead family (above Allister, Lorraine & Cameron).
Samuel Elderton Tolley
established the Elderton Vineyards in the early
1900s. The main purpose in developing the vineyard was to supply Barossa
wineries with premium fruit. The Ashmead family
purchased the vineyard in 1979 and went about restoring it to its former
glory after a period of neglect. Modern viticulture practices were employed
and the vineyard flourished. Neil & Lorraine Ashmead
produced Elderton's first vintage in 1982 - now
considered a collector's item and the first Command Shiraz followed suit in
1984 making it one of Australia's oldest blockbuster wines. In 2003 Elderton finished building its own winery in Nuriootpa (formerly a Penfolds
site), meaning that Elderton is now able to grow,
produce & bottle wines all on the family estate.
